Modern Materials Handling’s look at robotic automated storage walks through newer shuttles, bots in the rack and on the floor, and a fixed single-arm robot that is still in the mix. AutoStore’s R5 Pro is described by product director Margherita Carrozzo as 14 percent more throughput per robot from routing, which the company says can mean 15 percent fewer active robots for the same output, plus lithium-titanium-oxide batteries aimed at faster charging.

Brightpick’s in-aisle Autopicker started with picks up to 12 feet. Chief growth officer Andrey Bakholdin is quoted on the Giraffe, which reaches about 20 feet. Taller storage changes the failure a technician sees: a bot on a grid, a shuttle in a lane, or an arm at a port are three different machines sharing one work order title.
